Beira Mar Restaurant Sao Mateus Reviews
It was recommended by a local gentleman named Marcelo, who we met by the bay when he was swimming there. He said the seafood was very good. Turned out it WAS very fresh and good. Four of us ordered each a bowl of soup of the day (vegetable soup), grilled octopus, fish kabobs and hake fillets. Everything was fresh and delicious! And the portions were just right for the four of us. There are not many tables inside. Their business is so good that you’d better make a reservation. We were lucky to get a table without reservations, but we were told that we had to finish within 1.5 hours, which was quite enough time for us. We paid 69 for this meal. I would recommend it to anyone who loves seafood.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the terrace of this fish restaurant with a view of the small harbour. If you love fish, this is the place to be. You can admire the fresh caught fish in the display or just ask the waiter for recommendations, like we did. The service was very friendly and our waiter spoke English very well. We absolutely adored the fish. The pineapple was a bit of a disappointment though, not as sweet and juicy as we would have hoped. So just skip dessert and come here for the fish.
We tried calling and couldn’t get through, but they were still able to squeeze us in - the place was packed! It was our last night in Terceira, so really thankful we didn’t have to resort to fast food. Fish was the best fish I had all trip! Service was superb and fun
This is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever visited. The service, the spot and the view (foto) and the food are all amazing! I went there for lunch (2ppl) without reservations and got a table within 5 minutes. The staff was always very pleasant and helpful helping with all the questions and suggestions about what to eat and the portions. First suggestion was small portion of Lapas as starter, it was and amazing starter with some bread that os the island classic . (Foto) Then we where suggested to take the seafood bread soup. (Foto) That was my favorite. The soup was very good and with some shrimps. After eating the soup you can also eat the bread that is smooth and tasting like the soup. After that we got some fish and shrimp skewers (Foto), that was also delicious. As mentioned before everything was very good but a special mention to the seafood and bread soup! The staff made us feel super comfortable and even changed our table to a better table with a view over the bay between starters and the soup as they got a better table with a view free at that point, making the meal whole experience even better. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want a traditional Portuguese meal, specially for fish and sea food, and experience and I will definitely repeat my visit as soon as I’m back into the island.
We loved this place so much that we ate there 3 times in 4 days! Both the food and the service was wonderful. I enjoyed both types of skewers. They were consistently delicious and fresh. The sweet potatoes and french fries were my favourite sides. My cousin enjoyed the lapas (ordered 12 and got 30) and two kinds of grilled fish which were both absolutely delicious. Staff took their time to walk her to the fresh fish counter and explained what types there were. You can’t get fresher than what was there.
Very pretty view of the crashing waves & mountain, incredibly attentive & kind service, & the food presentation & taste were good. The seafood soup in a bread bowl was so yummy & the squid & shrimp skewers were very good. (The limpeds were a little strong & salty but I think they're just an acquired taste.) We would definitely return here, if anything but to try their octopus which was not available today.
Came here on a last minute recommendation, walked in and they told us they were fully booked but we mentioned we came for the lobster and they cleared a table for us. The lobster was absolutely amazing that we ordered 2 although I was a bit disappointed that the lobster claws where not included when the plate was brought out , the sangria was great with bits of raspberries and the shrimp appitizer was delicious, extremely friendly and English speaking, if I’m ever back on the island I’ll be sure to visit again.
We were here thanks to a recommandation. What can I say : THE BEST SEAFOOD SOUP OF MY LIFE ... OBRIGADA
